Continue is an open-source autopilot for software development, available as a Visual Studio Code (VS Code) extension. By integrating ChatGPT into the IDE, it lets developers easily produce, modify, and understand code snippets. A main feature of Continue is its ability to provide answers to coding-related questions.
By selecting a code section, developers can ask Continue for different viewpoints on solving a coding issue. Examples include asking how to set up a Prisma schema with cascading deletes, where to make a backend request in a web page, or how to establish iframe communication. Furthermore, Continue enables code editing using natural language commands.
Developers can select a piece of code and tell Continue to refactor it based on given specifications. They might, for example, ask Continue to turn a plot into a bar chart within a dashboard component, make a function asynchronous, or convert a Digital Ocean Terraform file to one compatible with Google Cloud Platform. Additionally, Continue facilitates generating entirely new files.
With a blank file open, developers can instruct Continue to generate fresh Python scripts, React components, etc. They could, for instance, ask Continue to create a Postgres connector, design an IAM policy for read-only S3 access, or produce an SQL query to find recently churned users. To stay informed on the latest updates, developers have the option to subscribe to Continue's newsletter or participate in their Discord community.
Continue is an open-source initiative managed by Continue Dev, Inc.
