Biggles is a coding assistant found on GitHub that lets users add or change code using spoken or typed commands.
Biggles defaults to inserting new code at the current cursor position based on the command. Users can also select existing code and instruct Biggles to make alterations. Biggles relies on the OpenAI Whisper and ChatGPT APIs to interpret and fulfill user requests.
To use these features, users must supply their own OpenAI API key. To give ChatGPT suitable context, Biggles transmits code snippets from before and after the cursor. However, Biggles does have limits.
It has a limited understanding of the broader codebase and works only near the current cursor position. Users can adjust the number of tokens sent to ChatGPT for context in the settings.
Biggles provides two modes: inserting new code when nothing is selected, and modifying a selected block of code. It currently cannot handle more complex actions like code movement. Overall, Biggles is a useful coding assistant enabling users to conveniently insert and change code through voice or typed commands, improving the coding experience in Visual Studio Code.
